Garageband Free Download for Chromebook

I’m really interested in music, but I can’t play any musical instrument.

I’ve seen some videos on YouTube of people using their Chromebooks to make Garageband-style music, and it seems like something that would be good for me to learn how to do.

There are lots of options available in terms of applications that work with the Chromebook platform. One such application is Audacity which already runs on Chrome OS (and looks amazing). Applying my research ability, I find this page which talks about Audacity. It’s pretty much what I’m looking for. This article also comes highly recommended by several sources when googling “Audacity + Chromebook.

Install Garageband on Chromebook:

The first question I have is whether or not a Chromebook can run Garageband. I would assume so, as they are Apple products. However, being an iTECH student here at Dixie State University, it’s very likely that the answer is available from some reputable source on campus or may even be in this Wiki already.

Luckily for me, this article has exactly what I am looking for:

As someone who hasn’t used either application before but hopes to learn how soon, just knowing that there is a possible option of installing something like Garageband onto a Chromebook is awesome enough to keep me going with my research and hopefully find a way around any trouble spots when actually.

What is Garageband?

Garageband is a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) developed by Apple Inc. It is one of many easy-to-use software, like iMovie and Pages that comes with the purchase of any iOS device such as iPhones or iPads. However, it has been reported that Garageband was only compatible with Macintosh computers until recently when it became compatible with other platforms including Windows and Android Operating Systems. This opens up a whole new world for music enthusiasts who use Google’s laptop/desktop operating system called Chrome OS which allows people to access their music on a laptop or desktop from anywhere they have an internet connection, even from an outside source such as YouTube. This also allows people to use Garageband to create and edit music on their Chromebook.

Create a new project in GarageBand for Chromebook:

To get started, open up the Chrome Browser and search ‘Garageband’ in the app store or click here. Once opened, you will be taken into the main screen which looks like this:

This is your master control and editing board. The first step would be to select a track by clicking the top left side of the speaker icon. It will then turn blue and at the bottom there will be an option bar that says ‘No Track’. Clicking on it will bring up a menu with several different instruments from which you can choose. I chose the piano because I am familiar with it but I encourage you to try them all.
